The Mocambos Network is a solidarity movement that brings together people from quilombola (Afro-Brazilian) communities, Indigenous groups, artisans, and artists in the pursuit of building a world more aligned with our ways.

Below is an introduction to the origins, reasons, and proposals of the Mocambos Network, through records of some processes we've generated over the years.

BAC Tainã - 2004 - 26 minutes

A record of the moment when the proposal of Cultural Support Bases (BAC) transformed into "Pontos de Cultura" (Culture Points). Culture in the broadest sense, including the cooperative of waste pickers.

Mani_FestiSesi - 2007 - 10 minutes

A manifesto resulting from the Cultures Gathering organized by the Teatro de Mamulengo Invenção Brasileiro (Brazilian Puppet Theater) from Mercado Sul in Taguatinga-DF, in cooperation with groups from across Brazil recognized as "Pontos de Cultura"—a universe that is one of the cradles of the Mocambos Network.

3rd Bahia Agroecology Journey - 2014

A rural-urban alliance recognizing the importance of territory, seeds, and communication in breaking relations of dependency and oppression of the working class.

Community Data Center:

Searching for the term "datacenter" in Baobáxia yields two quick videos that showcase and explain the proposal and potential of communities having access, control, knowledge, and management over their "digital territories."
The first video shows the implementation of the Data Center at Casa Tainã throughout 2022.
The Siwazi video documents this process taking place in the Wederã Village, home to the Xavante people in Canarana-MT, in September 2022.

Baobáxia datacenter search

Thousands of videos, photos, and documents are published on Baobáxia, recording the diversity of processes driven by the Mocambos Network.
Baobáxia is one of the free tools created within Mocambos to safeguard, manage, and share community memories—without necessarily depending on the internet.
Baobáxia and dozens of other tools are examples of "services" running from this Community Data Center, such as telephony, messaging, radio, and TV services. Beyond community autonomy, they provide opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to access advanced knowledge right in their own territories, learning playfully among friends—like playing a drum in a batucada.

There are countless possible routes to begin this introduction.
Depending on comments and questions, we continue in this process...

Long live!
